Mossley
2s 0-1 Raphoe 2s
Raphoe second eleven travelled to the glade at the weekend
and came away with a hard earned victory.
The first half started with Raphoe on the back foot with
Mossley having all the possession and goal scoring opportunities.
And without some outstanding goalkeeping by David Moore
Raphoe would have found themselves behind at the break.
In fact Alan Meehan had two unbelievable clearances off
the goal line from Mossley drag flick efforts at penalty
corners. Raphoe rarely threatened in the first half,
more content to sit back and contain their opponents.
The second half began in the same fashion with Raphoe
barely even to string three passes together in attack
but their
tackling and work rate was top notch. The defence of
Alan Meehan and Alan Lyttle made some crucial last ditch
tackles
with Moore in unbeatable form in the goals. Raphoe managed
to hold their opponent throughout the second period.
With a rare attack Raphoe stole a winner in the last
minute
when Evan Lyttle fed Jonny Long at the top of the circle;
his first time effort beat the keeper sending Raphoe
into a surprising lead. It was an amazing result for
the team
after being under so much pressure for most of the game.
